March 27, 2008 - Rick Craig got quite a phone call in early March. Victoria Chiru, Procurement Agent for the U.S. Embassy in Romania – a site seven time zones away – had an urgent request. Could the WearGuard-Crest government sales team, which regularly supplies work apparel for the Embassy staff, pull together an emergency order for this week’s NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Summit?
Craig was on it. “Trust me,” the Government Account Manager told Chiru. “We’ll get it done and your team will look good.” In the process, he said, “She called or emailed me several times a day almost every day. There was an unmistakable importance to this, so I was happy to put her at ease.”
When the summit begins on April 2, all 21 employees will be outfitted in new apparel from head to toe – shoes, shirts, pants, hats and jackets. The employees are staff workers – maintenance, housekeeping, grounds-keepers, and security – those who need to be easily identified on the grounds of the Embassy. All totaled, it was about a $3,000 sale. Timely delivery was the most important focus.
“The seven-hour time difference was the biggest challenge,” said Craig. “Plus we had to do international shipping through an expediter in Virginia, who was terrific to work with. There was no regular shipping; everything had to be sent in a diplomatic pouch.”
It was a total team effort. “Believe me when I tell you many people here in Norwell had a hand in making this happen,” said Craig. “From Paul Danehy, Government Team Manager, to the production people and to our shipping department. The whole team was involved.”
And when all the ordered items arrived a full two weeks before the summit, Craig got this appreciative email from Chiru: “Thank you so very much for all your help during these past weeks. You don’t want to know what hectic days we’re living here. It’s crazy. Thanks to you now I’ve got some more room to breathe.”
